Seven ways to get here

Every route ends in Nedumkandam, 7 km from the house, unless you come all the way by taxi.

  1. Overnight bus to Cumbum

Several overnight buses run from Bangalore and Chennai to Cumbum in Tamil Nadu, 39 km from the house. A/C and non-A/C sleeper buses take about 10 to 12 hours and cost roughly ₹1,000 to ₹3,000, depending on the season and the bus. Book on redBus or a similar app.

From Cumbum there is at least one bus an hour to Nedumkandam. These are ordinary public buses and are often tightly packed. Then take the last 7 km to Pachady (see below). A taxi from Cumbum costs around ₹1,600 to ₹2,000 and takes up to 1.5 hours.

  2. Bus to Kattappana or Nedumkandam

Some buses from Bangalore and Chennai run to Kattappana, 20 km from the house, and a few go straight to Nedumkandam. From Kattappana, take a local bus to Nedumkandam, or a taxi for around ₹1,000 (about 45 minutes).

  3. Train to Aluva, Kerala

Aluva, 114 km away, is the nearest railway station in Kerala. Budget travellers can take a Munnar bus from the nearby KSRTC bus station, get off at Adimaly and take another bus to Nedumkandam. Allow at least 4 hours on the buses, plus waiting time in Aluva and Adimaly.

A taxi we arrange costs around ₹5,000. An app cab such as Uber is often closer to ₹3,000. Either takes 3 to 3.5 hours.

  4. Train to Bodinayakanur, Tamil Nadu

Bodinayakanur, 73 km away, is the nearest station in Tamil Nadu. A few trains run from Chennai, and you can check trains from Madurai too. From Bodinayakanur, take a Munnar bus, get off at Pooppara and go on to Nedumkandam. The buses take more than 3.5 hours, plus waiting time.

Another option is an auto rickshaw from the airport to Kalady, then buses to Perumbavoor and on to Kothamangalam or Adimaly.
