A spice farm that learned to work online

Work From Village sits on our family's 1.5-acre spice garden in Pachady, a farming village in the Idukki highlands between Munnar and Thekkady. Most of our neighbours from the older generation still grow pepper and cardamom for a living, and so do we.

For nearly a decade we have opened our home to travellers. Along the way, the farm also became an office. Aneesh, our host, is both a farmer and a web developer, and he works from the same house, a few steps from the pepper vines. Fiber internet with two backups, steady power and a proper desk turned out to be all a village needed to keep pace with the city.

Now we share that setup with you. Spend the day on calls and code, and spend the breaks in cardamom shade, cool hill air and birdsong.

Is the internet good enough for video calls?

Yes. The house runs on fiber broadband with an AirFiber connection as backup, and mobile internet as a third line if both are down. Quiet call corners are set aside for meetings.

What happens during a power cut?

Power backup keeps the WiFi and workspaces running 24/7, including during monsoon outages.

How many rooms are there?

Three private bedrooms. The house stays small on purpose, so mornings are quiet and the workspaces never feel crowded.

Are meals available?

Yes. We serve home-cooked Kerala food made with spices from the farm. Tell us about any dietary needs when you message us.

Where exactly is Work From Village?

In Pachady village, about 7 km from Nedumkandam town in Idukki district, Kerala, between Munnar and Thekkady. The nearest airport is Kochi (about 113 km) and the nearest railway station in Kerala is Aluva (about 114 km). Overnight buses from Bangalore and Chennai run to Cumbum, 39 km away. Can I stay for a few weeks?
