How a spice farm became a workplace
Pachady is an agricultural village in the Idukki district of Kerala, a few kilometres from Nedumkandam town and between Munnar and Thekkady. Most families here grow spices, and many of our older neighbours still farm for a living. Our own 1.5-acre garden is planted with black pepper, cardamom, clove, cinnamon, cocoa and coffee.
For nearly a decade we have opened our home to travellers. Along the way, the house also became an office. Aneesh John, who hosts you, is both a farmer and a web developer, and he runs his web development business from the same house, a few steps from the pepper vines.
Working online from a village taught us exactly what remote work needs: an internet connection that does not drop in the middle of a call, power that stays on when the monsoon takes the lines down, a proper desk and a quiet corner to talk. So we built those in: fibre broadband with AirFiber and mobile internet as backups, 24/7 power backup, ergonomic desks and quiet call corners.
Work From Village is the result. It is not a resort and it is not a co-working space. It is a small working farm with three private bedrooms, where you keep your normal working hours and spend the hours around them outdoors.
